I bought one of these units since my AC fan coils keeps breaking down. It works well but yes it is fairly loud but no more louder than any in the window air conditioner set on high. You will need to however do some handiwork to fit the duck work onto your window. I ended up using some box cutters & duck tape to cut down the plastic that fit into the window.
